  a.. Beaumont to El Paso: 742 miles
  b.. Beaumont to Chicago: 770 miles
  c.. World's first rodeo was in Pecos... July 4, 1883.
  d.. The Flagship Hotel in Galveston is the only hotel in North America built over water.
  e.. The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman who was the first
      full time coach for Rice University, Houston.
  f.. Brazoria County has more species of birds than any other area in North America.
      Aransas Wildlife Refuge is the winter home of North America's only remaining
      flock of whooping cranes.
  g.. Jalapeno jelly originated in Lake Jackson in 1978.
  h.. The worst natural disaster in U.S. history was in 1900 caused by a hurricane
       in which over 8000 lives were lost on Galveston Island.
  i.. The first word spoken from the moon, July 20, 1969, was "Houston."
  j.. El Paso is closer to California than to Dallas.
  k.. Laredo is the world's largest inland port.

  r.. Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in the state.
  s.. Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885. There is no period after Dr in Dr Pepper.

  u.. The Capitol Dome in Austin is the only dome in the U.S. which is taller

  v.. The name Texas comes from the Hasini Indian word "tejas" meaning friends.
  w.. Tejas is not Mexican for Texas.
  x.. The State animal is the Armadillo. *
  y.. The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston.

  *An interesting bit of trivia about the armadillo is they always have
  four babies! They have one egg which splits into four and they either
  have four males or four females. Well... I thought it was interesting
  anyway!

1. You measure distance in hours. (like Lubbock is 8 hours from Houston - who knows how many miles it is)
2. You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.
3. Stores don't have bags; they have sacks.
4. Stores don't have shopping carts; they have buggies.
5. You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it, no matter what time of the year.
6. You use "fix" as a verb. Example: I am fixing to go to the store.
7. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, or animal.
8. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.
9. You carry jumper cables in your car ..for your OWN car.
10. You know what "cow tipping" and "snipe hunting" are.
11. You only own four spices: salt, pepper, ketchup, and Tabasco.
12. You think everyone from a bigger city has an accent.
13. You think sexy lingerie is a tee shirt and boxer shorts.
14. The local paper covers national and international news on one page but requires 6 pages for sports.(high school football is of utmost importance)

18. You know all four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer, and Christmas.

21. Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past-time known as "goin wal-martin" or off to "Wally World."
